Coquette

Every Thursday Coquette has a $5 cocktail special and I forget every week to check it out. This week I actually remembered before they closed Thursday evening so the boyfriend and I decided to imbibe.
I have only been to Coquette once before and was mildly enthused. The owners are previous employees of August, which is quite evident from the menu. I find August to be too rich for my tastebuds and my pocket book. On my first visit I thought Coquette was reasonably priced but still had obviously been influenced by August's flavors. When we arrived on Thursday night we had intentions of sticking to the cocktail menu, but as always we ordered a small plate to accompany our drinks. We decided to go with the pork belly rillette, and to drink, he had the Port-au-Prince and I chose the Coquette Collins. The pork rillette was served with cornichons, a sour cherry compote, and a delightfully bold Dijon mustard. I was impressed with the flavor combinations, presentation as well as the portion, we were forced to request more bread just to finish it all.

The cocktails were even more incredible than the food. The Coquette Collins was a fig brandy mixed with a ginger liqueur, lemon, soda, and finished with a cucumber. It was a perfect summer cocktail with a nice kick. The Port-au-Prince was much bolder than my cocktail, a definite sipping drink. It was made with spiced rum, scotch, bitters, and a macadamia liqueur. You could definitely taste all components, being very warm and spicy with an interesting, nutty aftertaste. Well worth my $5.

All in all, a pleasant evening without spending too much dough. I don't know if I'll be back for dinner ever, but I will definitely be taking advantage of their cocktail specials!
Happy Dining!
